Hello,

My name is Diane, I am 49 and I live in New Caledonia a French Island in the South Pacific near Australia and New Zealand.

I have signed up into this site because I need someone living in New Zealand or Australia to help me.

I am not asking for money, I work and I get a good salary that I entirely spend feeding and taking care of dogs and cats.

I myself have got four dogs and sixteen cats, they are all mongrel dogs  and stray cats I rescued from hunger or bad treatment.

In New Caledonia, I live in the bush, two hundred and fifty kilometers away from Noumea (the capital), in a small village called Houailou on the East coast of the island.

98% of the inhabitants of the village are natives (melanesians or they also call them Kanaks)  and they also like to have pets. (mainly mongrels and stray cats) However, the problem is that they don't feed them everyday, and do not treat their pets' scabies, flea, ticks and don't worm them. They are used to feed them when they have left overs, and unfortunately it may be only once or twice a week !

I feed about 40 dogs a day, and what I do daily is really a drop in the ocean of these animal needs. apart from the time spent at work I spend all the rest of my time trying to alleviate the village animals plight. I have been doing it for six years now.

It is my life and I don't complain about it. I try to educate the natives to feed their animal at least once every two days, but it is a long term task and I sometimes feel lonesome and depressed when I see a dog which has died of thirst (in the summer) because it was chained up and that they forgot to give it water. (And this happens here very often) There are 4500 inhabitants in this village, and there are a lot of dogs and cats.

I also try to stick to a sterilization programm of two bitches a month when the owners agree to it. I pay for everything of course. My vet  bills are huge every month, because the people of the village are starting to know me by word of mouth, and when they have a sick animal dog, cat, pig, they come to me to take care of it. Most of the time I take the injured or sick animal to the vet, who lives 60 kilometers away from Houailou.

What I need help for. New Caledonia is a French territory and it roughly has the same laws as in France. Only Vets and chemists can sell WORMERS, FLEA AND TICK PRODUCTS, and SCABIES treatments, and since they have the monopoly of selling these products and all medecines as well, they tend to take huge margins. They cannot do it with medecines for humans because the National Health Social Security would not allow them to do so, but with animal medecines they are free to fix the prices they want.

That's where I would need help. I cannot order vets products online (in New Zealand or Australia or England or the USA) because, each time the Customs sees a package or a parcel with "Vetorder" or "Petshopvet" or "Vetdepot" or whatever trademark printed on the package, the law allows them to open it and if it contains medecines for humans or animals, they immediately chuck it away. Because importing medecines (without being a Vet or a chemist) is forbidden by French laws.

What I would like to do is to order online wormers, tick, fleas, scabies products, pay for them, have them sent to someone in Australia or New Zealand, and ask the person who would agree to help me, to put these products in an anonymous package and have it sent to me by post. I commit myself to reimburse every cent this person would spend on the package or for the postage.

Here is the help I would need ! Can anyone help me ? Please for them, their plight is so immense. I see them die every day of hunger, lack of care, sickness, ticks attacks, worm attacks for the puppies.

Is there anyone who can help ? "Is there anybody out there ?"

That sounds like quite a predicament Diane.  What are the risks of the person forwarding your parcels?

Hello,

The person forwarding the parcels living in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom or USA, doesn't break any law since these countries legislation allow their people to sell and buy these products worldwide.

I am the one who risks something , since the French legislation forbids  me to import these products from foreign countries as a private person! The risk is a fine ! But most of the time the French Customs do not bother to fine people, they just chuck away the products !

Usually I receive one parcel out of four ! Which in the end makes me spend as much money as if I bought these products here at my Vet.

If I could buy these products cheaper  I could treat more animals, and I told you, the needs are immense.

Does it help making a decision ?

Diane
