Caring for ferrets is not too hard.  But there is one area that is vital that you get right.

Ferrets need the right diet to be healthy and happy.   You must maintain the right balance of food in their diet.  A ferret's digestive tract is particularly short which means their diet is critical.

Although ferrets are meat eaters, they cannot survive on a diet that consists solely of meat.  They do like a diet of dry foods and if you cannot get ferret specific food, it is possible to substitute cat and dog pellets.

Do not forget to supply your ferrets with a quality water supply as water is an important part of their diet.  They consume a reasonable amount of water to keep hydrated with their naturally dry diet.

Water is also essential for keeping your ferret clean.  You will need to set up a regular bathing schedule for your ferret, both for your own health and for the health of your pet.  Keeping them clean and healthy will naturally prolong their life.
