Pit Bulls Cause Of 50 Dogs Death
In a rather bizarre case a New Mexico shelter is prepared to euthanize more than 50 dogs to make room for 12 pit bulls.
The pit bulls need to be transferred immediately from the Mesilla Valley Animal Services Center because their funding grant is not being renewed and they will be shutting up shop. Curtis Childress, animal control supervisor, says they have until Saturday at the latest to have the dogs removed.
The pit bulls are the unfortunate victims in a alleged dog fighting and animal abuse case that is pending before the state's appeals court. They were confiscated from Daron and Duryea Scott, two brothers from New Mexico, in August 2007.
Due the nature of their upbringing these dogs have to be housed singly in cages that would normally house two dogs. This the reason for the excessively high number of dogs that will be put to death to make room for them.
I am not saying anything against pit bulls necessarily, but do you think this is right?
Who is going to adopt pit bulls (or any dog) that have been breed for fighting? Who is going to bring them home to meet their young family? Or their neighbors young family?
The only people interested in these dogs are not fit to be dog owners. Why kill 50 dogs that may have a chance of living happily ever after with an adoptive family just to house 12 dogs bred for fighting, that will ultimately be put down anyway (or worse, let back out on the street).
