In tough economic times, or when the rental housing market becomes flooded with properties it the landlords who listen to the tenants that comes out on top.

A recent survey conducted by Apartments.com, the most visited national apartment Internet listing subscription service, published a survey of more than 1000 renters which states that almost 90% want pet friendly accommodation.

With such a large slice of the renter pie either having a pet, or wanting to get one, landlords have had to begin accommodating this market.   Pet lovers are choosing accommodation right now based on their ability to have an animal companion.

Locations near dog walking parks are also in high demand.  A veterinarian near by is also a strong influence for many tenants. 

Large pet deposits are often an obstacle for many tenants with pets, so if you are struggling to find a tenant this may be something to consider.  Especially given that in 2008 there were more than 11 million searches for pet friendly apartments on Apartments.com alone.
