Foreclosures on the rise ... Pets on the receiving end.

Rosie, the orange tabby cat is just one of a growing number of cats, dogs, and other pets that are suffering the effects of economic downturn.

As the numbers of foreclosures rise, so to is the numbers left abandoned with the vacated home.

Firstly, I would say that there is no excuse for just abandoning an animal - none!  If a suitable home cannot be found for your pet, then you have a responsibility to at least take it to an animal shelter.

However, this tragic state of affairs could be partly driven by the fact that finding rental accommodation is much harder for families with pets.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is working to help people that require pet-friendly rental housing and has information to help you. You can find out more about how they can help you here.
