Posted On 04/04/2009 22:08:54 by TopDog

The Neglect Of Rabbits Is Of Growing Concern In Britain.

Often claimed as a good child's pet, the rabbit is maltreated.

A rabbit lifespan averages between 5 and 10 years, costing the family around three thousand pounds.  Something that is not often considered when purchasing a cute little bunny as an easter pet for a child.

Vets are noticing significant rises of rabbits with health problems in Britain.  A recent PDSA study reveals a host of problems in the way we are keeping rabbits.

Some of the common disease include painful teeth problems, and fly strike, which is a maggot infestation that causes the most painful and slow deaths.

Rabbit Do Nots

  • Do not keep them in isolation - they are a naturally social creature.
  • Do not keep them confined in small spaces.
  • Do not feed them a dry crunchy diet - is causes major teeth problems.

Rabbit Dos

  • Make sure they get plenty of exercise
  • Feed them a diet of vegetation
  • Provide plenty of mental stimulation
