Of all the foods poisionous to cats, this one might surprise you the most.  It is a favourite of most cats and often considered a treat.

Tunafish can be dangerous to your cats health.

It is because of the tendancy that most cats have of favouring the food that makes it so dangerous.  Once cats develop a taste for Tunafish they can reject all other food and demand a tunafish only diet. 

Just as with any animal a balanced diet is essential to good health, cats are no exception.  If you feed your cat a diet consisting only of Tuna fish, or containing excessive amounts of Tunafish, your cat will likely develop steatitis. 

The condition steatitis is caused by an excessive amount of fatty acids in the diet and it results in vitamin E being destroyed.  Once this happens your cat will become very ill and if the problem continues it will prove fatal.

The solution is to restrict Tunafish in your cat's diet to an occaisional treat.  Try and find Tunafish that is packed in water rather than oil to be extra healthy.  In small doses it is a healthy addition and mouth watering treat.
