Pet Dangers Of The Holiday Season
Posted On 11/30/2008 05:02:11 by TopDog

The Holiday Season Has Many Added Dangers For Your Pet

One of the biggest dangers is CHOCOLATE.  Chocolate is hazardous to people's waistline but is potentially lethal to your pet. Theobromine a chemical found in chocolate is toxic to a dog when it consumes between 100 and 150 milligrams per kilogram of body weight.

Christmas trees can also be a hazard to the life of your pet.  Apart from the possibility of a wayward pet getting crushed by tipping the tree over, there is the potentially lethal water that the tree sits in.  Often an additive such as bleach is put in the water to keep the tree alive longer, but even without this the stagnant water may prove a hazard if consumed.

Candles are another seasonal death trap for you pets.  Knocking over a burning candle has obvious ramifications, but there is also the danger that scented candles pose to a curious pet's stomach.

For more about these and other  seasonal health hazards read this article by Patrick Mahaney.
