This is becoming an increasingly common scenario as the importance of pets in family life is recognised.  People are cutting short holidays, even forgoing holidays altogether to tend sick pets. 

Spouses are taking separate vacations so one of them will always be at home to take care of their pets.  Business owners are having to make time off available for pet lovers to care for sick animals and to mourn their partings. 

Pet owners are accepting the responsibility that comes with adopting an animal.  Pets are now being elevated to the status of children.  Loved pets feature on the signature of family greeting cards and letters. 

It is a good thing that animals have more respect at last, but have we gone too far treating them as human?
