Los Angeles and Beverly Hills join Santa Monica and San Francisco banning declawing pets (the council vote was 5-0. This is ahead of a new state law stopping local councils from being able to vote on issues related to veterinary medicine, due to come into effect next year.
This barbaric act of claw amputation can leave animals crippled and in pain for the rest of their lives.
The bans are opposed by The California Veterinary Medical Association that argues it will lead to more abandoned animals. They say it should be up to pet owners, and not government, about whether or not pets are declawed. Perhaps they are worried about the loss of income?
If your furniture is more important than your pets well-being I don't think you qualify to own animals.
